Messy, inconsistent naming conventions make warehouse tracking a nightmare. WeCraft ERP solves this with the Automated SKU Generator Engine, a tool designed to help you construct highly customized, standardized Stock Keeping Units (SKUs) for physical batches, material deliveries, or custom product variants.
The SKU Component Blueprint
To access the generator, navigate to the Inventories & Warehouses and click the SKU Generator tab.
The SKU Component Blueprint panel on the left allows you to build a complex SKU out of meaningful data points rather than random numbers. You can define:
- Category Code: Broad classification (e.g., PLA for PLA Plastic).
- Batch / Lot No.: Crucial for tracking raw material imports (e.g., B01).
- Facility Code: Where the item is stored (e.g., WH1 for Workshop Closet).
- Supplier Alias: Who provided the material (e.g., SUP).
- Unit Attribute: Physical characteristics (e.g., 1KG).
- Increment Code: A sequential identifier (e.g., 001).
You can also customize the visual readability by selecting a Separator Token (dash -, underscore _, slash /, or None).
Dynamic Code Generation
As you type into the blueprint fields, the Dynamic Generated Code preview box at the bottom updates in real-time.
For example, entering the data above with a dash separator instantly generates: PLA-B01-WH1-SUP-1KG-001.
You can click the Copy SKU Structure button to immediately paste this standardized code into your label printer software or e-commerce platform.
Why Structured SKUs Matter
As outlined in the Automated SKU Structure Guide on the right side of the dashboard, structured SKUs provide powerful advantages:
- Batch Segregation: Tagging raw material imports with lot codes prevents mixing different manufacturing runs (e.g., tracking a bad batch of filament).
- Variant Pinpointing: Distinguish custom colors or diameters instantly from packaging barcodes.
- Storage Optimization: Facility codes indicate exactly which shelf or warehouse site stores the material element.
